Getting To Guma Lagoon Camp
Guma Lagoon Camp is only accessible with 4×4 vehicles. There is a THICK SAND ROAD – NOT FOR THE FAINT HEARTED. Certain times of the year the sand is very thick, so deflate tyres and drive in low range 2nd gear. Guests that do not have 4×4 vehicles need to arrange transfers beforehand from Etsha 13 village to camp. FOLLOW THE SIGNS, NOT YOUR GPS AS THAT ROAD IS SOMETIMES FLOODED.
Guma Lagoon Camp is 280 km from Maun on the Sehitwa / Shakawe road. From Maun drive 101 km towards Ghanzi and turn right at Sehitwa towards Shakawe. Drive past Etsha 6 and then turn into Etsha 13 and follow the signs to Guma Lagoon Camp. Fuel is available at Gumare and Etsha 6. Gumare is 48 km south of Guma Lagoon Camp.


Seronga (S18o49 06.00 E022o 25 00.00; runway 12/25 1100 m dirt strip) can be used as an airstrip. Guma Lagoon Camp is one hour via boat from Seronga.

Transfers
Please note the drive in from Etsha 13 is a heavy sandy road and is only accessible with a 4×4 vehicle. Transfers can be arranged.
If you booked a Transfer or Escort – please phone us from Shakawe/ Gumare in order for our vehicle to be at the parking area in time to meet you.
Vehicle escorts can be arranged at a fee of P 340.00 (one way)
Call out for recovery of stuck vehicles – P550.00

- There are Foot and Mouth veterinary check points around our area, from Maun to the Mohembo Border. Please check in with us before you travel if there have been any outbreaks or restrictions imposed so that you can plan around this.
- Just to forewarn you that there might be some flood water in April/May/June/July. The road will be sign posted from the village to the camp if it is okay for 4×4 vehicles to get through. It is very difficult to say how the road will be each year, so it is advisable to contact us closer to your arrival date to see if transfers are needed from the village to camp or if it is okay for vehicles to drive through. Transfers or escorts in, can be arranged.
- Should you be paying in cash PLEASE bring small denominations as change is a problem for us when everyone is paying with large bills. Our nearest bank branch is 300km away.
- Should you pay by visa/ mastercard please note that an admin fee of 3.5% will be added.
MINORS TRAVELLING IN / THROUGH SOUTH AFRICA
Effective 1st June 2015, minors under 18 years of age, irrespective of nationality, travelling to/from South Africa, must hold:
When travelling with both parents; an original unabridged (full) birth certificate, or a certified copy
When travelling with one parent; an original unabridged (full) birth certificate, or a certified coy, and an affidavit from the absent parent, stating consent to travel, issued no more than 3 months prior to date of travel, or a court order granting full parental responsibilities to the present parent, or in the case the other parent is deceased, a death certificate
When travelling with adult other than parent, a copy of the minor’s birth certificate, together with an affidavit from the parents/legal guardians, stating consent to travel. Copies of identification documents/legal guarding; and contact details of parents/legal guardians
When travelling unaccompanied; Affidavit from both parents/legal guardians, stating consent to travel (or consent from one parent together with a court order granting full parental responsibilities); letter from the person receiving the minor in South Africa, containing address and contact details; copy of Identification documents of the person receiving the minor, including visa/resident permits (if required); and contact details of parent/legal guardians.
The Birth Certificate must include the information about the minor’s parents. All documents issued in a language other than English, must be accompanied by a sworn translation into English, certified by the issuing country.
